The training of Coordinators of Education, English language teachers and preschool teachers is implemented in the framework of the Programme “Teacher training for the introduction of English in preschool (EAN)”, (Code: MIS 5093563) in the context of the OP “Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning 2014-2020”. The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) is responsible for the asynchronous training while the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP) is responsible for running it on the IEP platform.

The training of Coordinators of Education, English language teachers and preschool teachers aims at their familiarisation with:

  • the philosophy, principles, and characteristics of the programme
  • the developmental characteristics of preschool children and their connection with the learning process in the framework of the introduction of English in the preschool
  • the philosophy and operation of the preschool curriculum in general
  • the context of the introduction of the English language in the preschool curriculum
  • the cooperation of teachers for this purpose, and
  • the design and implementation of creative activities in the English language.

English Language and preschool teachers through training are expected to develop: (a) specialised knowledge in relation to the philosophy, principles and methodology of teaching English in preschool and acquire skills related to the design and implementation of appropriate activities, (b) knowledge in the implementation of the programme and will enhance their competence regarding the subject matter, (c)  networks and community practices through the use of the  digital training platform and other programme tools, strengthening the collaborative culture of the preschool, (d) self-assessment skills using the relevant tools of the programme.

English Language and preschool Coordinators of Education through training are expected to develop: (a) specialised knowledge in relation to the philosophy, principles and methodology regarding the introduction of the English language in preschool and acquire skills related to the design and implementation of relevant activities, (b) knowledge and tools so as to support teachers in their role as mentors and constructive critics in relation to the supervision of teachers during the implementation of the programme and will strengthen their competence regarding the material, (c)  networks and community practices through the use of the programme’s digital training platform and other programme activities.

Children will: (a) receive quality education concerning the introduction of the English language in the preschool, maximising the benefits of preschool education in relation to their overall development; (b) develop knowledge, skills and attitudes related to the English language and become familiar with the culture of the language and other cultures in general; (c)  develop plurilingual awareness and a positive attitude towards different languages; (d) develop an understanding of the notion of global citizenship.
