EAN Educational Scenarios
EAN Digital Games Application
The educational material is developed on the basis of the interdisciplinary thematic categories, taking into consideration the pedagogical approach followed in pre-primary education. The Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach is adopted as the most appropriate for the particular age and educational framework. Through this approach, emphasis is placed upon the language/communication and upon a thematic category, which follows the interdisciplinary approach according to the pre-primary curriculum. Therefore, all the suggested educational scenarios are soft CLIL scenarios. These scenarios, which follow the programme’s philosophy, in line with the pre-primary curriculum, take into account the special developmental characteristics of pre-primary children and make use of pre-primary pedagogical practices, as well as digital tools. The material developed draws from seasonal themes and areas, common in pre-primary schools. The scenarios are flexible, so that teachers can, on this basis, draw ideas and develop their own material.
Moreover, the scenarios offer a framework of learning with a meaning and a purpose, so that the activities are not separate from the learning process.
Therefore, English teachers will have a better understanding regarding how the activities in English can functionally be integrated into the pre-primary curriculum and thus prepare methodological and educational tools to adapt the suggested activities and material according to each individual classroom. This material consists of:
- suggested educational scenarios and activities
- songs
- digital games, digital stories, etc.
- visual aids (e.g., flashcards).
The main aim is for the particular material to provide support to the educators who are involved in the implementation of English in pre-primary education, by creating a suggested educational material bank. The material will be available to all educators, and can be exploited either exactly as it is or with any necessary adaptations, based on the learners’ needs.
An additional aim is to enrich, evaluate and review the vocabulary, according to educators’ comments as well as data collected by piloting the material. In this way, educators will be provided with a pool of ideas and activities to be used in class.
